Give Your Gear Away is a community where creatives invest in each other by giving their gear away to other creatives rather than selling it.

Why

A creative’s journey is ever changing. With this growth comes continual upgrades in gear and inevitable decommissioning of old gear.

The world is better when people help each other, and as creatives we can help the health of our whole community more when we up-cycle our old gear by giving it to other creatives who need it. This idea pushes against the status quo of selling old gear for the maximum profit available.

Obviously some do not have the ability to give gear away and need the revenue from selling it, this platform is not for that.

Take an inventory of all the gear you have and the current financial state you are in, and see if you can afford to give away some gear.

All creatives know the struggle of starting up a career in this field and the massive help getting free gear would be is something every creative can relate to.

Rules

There are only a few guidelines that this community follows:

1: There are no ulterior motives or benefits for people giving their gear away except to invest in the creative community around them. Because of that, anyone giving away gear will also pay shipping costs to send the gear to whoever is chosen to receive that gear, Unless it is “Pick up only” (reserved for things too big to ship.)

2: Any gear received on this platform MUST NEVER be resold. It can only ever be re-given. This is the most important tenet of this community.

How

Gear is posted on this website with the application time frame. While the time frame is open creatives may apply for the gear that would benefit them in their career.

The request process will require time and commitment in order to weed out those who do not really need the gear and who just want free stuff.

All requests will go through an intentional vetting process where one creative will be chosen to receive the gear.

Vetting will be based primarily on the specific use case for the gear requested and how it will maximize the growth of the creative individual requesting it. There is no biased towards altruistic causes. The more creative need the specific gear can help with, the better.

Once the Creative receives the gear and completes the project, they are asked to send the link of the project over along with any BTS photos of the gear in action so Give Your Gear Away can share the project on their social media.

Note

Personal projects can be small or big, hard or easy, the point is for the project to be a true passion project that is realized with the help of the free piece of gear. The current gear focus is for photographers and videographers.
